About me…

Hi and welcome to my blog, which I hope will soon contain all sorts of useful and interesting stuff about the wonderful (and frequently frustrating) world of family history….

So, who and where am I?  Well, without leaving myself open to internet spammers and other forms of lowlife, I’m Kate: I’m an experienced family and local historian, teacher, author and researcher based in Staffordshire, England.   I started in genealogy well before internet days, so I’m used to both on-line and ‘original’ resources – and although the internet can be a blessing, I must admit that as far as I’m concerned there’s nothing to beat the feel of a musty old ledger in your hand…

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web savvy so I’m not 100% certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

This blog is a free site – it doesn’t cost me a brass farthing. If you’re looking for a family history specific site, then this is an excellent site to use: http://familytreeblogs.com/blogs/create

I’m not very web savvy, either, and all that you see here is created with this site. I found it easy to set up, and very easy to design my own pages. If I can do this, anyone can!

If you’re looking to start a non-family history blog, these come as part of any free website package.

If you leave me a comment letting me know what your problem is, I’ll see what advice I can give you.
