Least Helpful Parish Register Entries

Like many of my ancestors, great great uncle James’ birth appears never to have been registered – although his nine siblings were … and the 1911 census reveals that there was another sibling who appears to have been born and died between census returns…

So off your intrepid blogger trolls to the archive, safe in the knowledge that during this period the family were baptised, married and buried in the same small parish church, and diligently checks every entry.  And there is no definite match for either the infant James or the Unknown Child.  Except two distinct possibilities, both of which read

‘Parents left church without leaving name’.

Just that.  Not even a Christian name.  So – what did the vicar baptise them as?  ‘Unnamed until your parents tell me all their details?’
